Steroid Treatments
Some acne scars are raised such as keloid scars. These are more common in people with dark than light pigment. A keloid scar may result when the body over produces collagen.
There are a number of methods used for the acne scar treatment of keloids. One method is injecting the raised scar with a steroid to flatten it. With steroid treatments a steroid is injected into the keloid, the scar tissue becomes softer, flatter and less noticeable. However, sometimes the skin tissue becomes even more depressed causing a sunken scar instead of a raised one.
Steroid treatments are also used to help cystic acne.
