You may have seen movie and tv stars with overblown lips. Just like lips can be enlarged with dermal fillers so can acne scars. Only in the case of acne scars the goal is to plump up the tissue under the scar to raise it to the same level as the rest of the skin.
There are a number of dermal fillers on the market. These include Collagen, Hylaform, Restylane, Sculptra and Radiesse. These dermal fillers are made from a variety of substances. Collagen is made from cow hide, Hylaform from rooster combs, Restylane comes from bacteria and Sculptra and Radiesse are synthetic.
Results from current dermal fillers on the market are not permanent. Collagen lasts from 3 to 6 months. Hylaform and Restylane up to a year, Sculptra up to 2 years and Radiesse 2 years are more. Prior to getting an injection testing is done to determine if you are sensitive to the dermal filler.
Dermal filler”s can improve the appearance of acne scars quickly with little down time. They are often used in combination with other acne scar treatments for best results.
