Acne Laser Treatments
There are two principal types of acne laser treatments; ablative and non-ablative.
Non-Ablative: Ablative acne laser treatments remove the outer layer of the dermis at a superficial level. They can be performed quickly, result in a fresher look to the skin and though there may be a pinkness to the skin there is rarely any downtime for the patient. These stimulate collagen production and help tighten the dermis. The result is a smoother skin. These acne laser treatments work well on very mild scarring and pigmentation issues.
Ablative: Ablative lasers are an acne laser treatment that work at acne scar removal by taking off the top level of skin in a very controlled manner. The skin then repairs itself resulting in new skin that is more toned and smoothed. Acne scarring is less noticeable. The healing process takes several weeks. The skin may remain red for months.
Discuss with your physician if acne laser treatments are the appropriate choice for your acne scarring. Be sure to select a board certified, experienced physician.
